ADP Statement on Rise in Arizona Unemployment Numbers
PHOENIX — Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released new data showing that the unemployment rate in Arizona increased in July to 10.6% — higher than the state’s unemployment rate in May or June, and higher than the national average. More than 1.1 million Arizonans have collected unemployment benefits during the pandemic.
In response, Arizona Democratic Party spokesperson Tyler Cherry released the following statement:
“Thanks to Trump, the economy is cratering and Arizona’s unemployment rate is going in the wrong direction. As a result of Trump’s failure to control the virus, more than 1 in 10 Arizonans are out of work and struggling to make ends meet. Meanwhile, Trump has refused to give schools the plans and resources they need to reopen safely, failed to increase testing capacity, and prioritized the interests of big corporations over workers. To make matters worse, Trump decided to cut unemployment insurance right as more Arizonans are losing their jobs, showing how utterly disconnected he is from the pain and suffering families across the state are experiencing. Arizona families deserve leaders with a plan to contain the virus, lift us out of Trump’s historic recession, and create good-paying jobs. Arizonans saw this week during our Convention that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are those leaders.”
