ADP Statement on Latest State Unemployment Figures

PHOENIX – Today, the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the latest state unemployment figures showing that Arizona’s unemployment rate increased to 6.7% and that over 237,000 Arizonans remain unemployed,

In response, Arizona Democratic Party spokesperson Tyler Cherry issued the following statement:

“Before the pandemic hit, Donald Trump and Doug Ducey’s economic policies and tax cuts gave massive windfalls to the wealthy and well-connected at the expense of hard-working Americans. These new economic numbers show how many Arizonans are still suffering the consequences of their failed leadership.

“Trump tried and failed at his rallies in Arizona yesterday to paint a rosy picture of an otherwise dire economic situation in Arizona. In reality, hundreds of thousands of Arizonans continue to suffer as a result of his ineffective pandemic response and failure to negotiate on bipartisan relief legislation. Arizona’s new unemployment numbers show that the unemployment situation in Arizona is getting worse, not better — a sad reflection of the economic disaster Trump has created.

“This economic reality in Arizona is yet another reminder that if Trump had taken the COVID-19 pandemic seriously from the start, Arizona families wouldn’t have to wonder how they’re going to put food on the table, afford their health care, pay their bills, or find a new job altogether. Working families in Arizona families deserve a President who will take action to contain the virus and get us back to work. Joe Biden’s going to create more than 18 million new jobs when he’s President — all without raising taxes on anyone making less than $400,000 a year. That’s why Arizonans are going to send Joe Biden to the White House this fall.”
