3 Weeks/$15.5M Outside Spending For McSally
October Surprise: In 3 Weeks, Mitch McConnell-Linked Groups Have Already Spent More Than $15.5 Million To Keep Martha McSally In The Senate
Overall, Senate Leadership Fund, Defend Arizona, and the NRSC have
spent more than $39 million attacking Mark Kelly and benefiting McSally
PHOENIX — So far in October, Mitch McConnell-linked outside groups have already spent more than $15.5 million benefiting Martha McSally, as corporate interests and billionaire megadonors pour hundreds of millions into groups seeking to keep Republican control of the U.S. Senate.
A review of Federal Election Commission filings shows that three Republican groups — the NRSC, as well as McConnell super PACs Senate Leadership Fund and Defend Arizona — have in October already spent more than $15.5 million attacking Mark Kelly and boosting McSally.
Since last year, those same three groups — which are predominantly funded by corporate interests and billionaire megadonors — have spent a total of more than $39 million benefiting McSally — and attacking Kelly, according to federal filings.
McSally has sided with McConnell on opposing direct relief for Arizona cities and towns, voted with McConnell to weaken pre-existing condition coverage protections, and refused to break from McConnell’s opposition to pre-election coronavirus relief, even though hundreds of thousands of Arizonans are still out of work due to the pandemic.
“Mitch McConnell and corporate special interests are pulling out all the stops to buy this election for Martha McSally and keep her vote in the U.S. Senate. But Arizonans aren’t going to let it happen,” said Brad Bainum, Arizona Democratic Party spokesperson.
