Which Mitt Romney is in town today?

Preeminent hypocrite visits Arizona to raise cash for GOP congressional candidates

PHOENIX – Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney is the special guest today at a $500-per-plate Phoenix fundraiser on behalf of Republican congressional candidates Paul Gosar, Ben Quayle, David Schweikert and Jesse Kelly.

The same GOP gang recently hosted House Republican leader -- and legendary friend-of-lobbyists – Rep. John Boehner on Sept. 17, but didn’t bother to brief him on important Arizona issues like border security. Maybe today's visit with Mitt will actually feature a discussion of the issues. The question is, which Mitt will show up? His hypocrisy and flip-flops are legendary. Some highlights:

Illegal immigration: Talks tough on illegal immigration but was caught two different times employing illegal immigrant workers at his Massachusetts mansion.

Health reform: Attacks the federal health reform law even though it is based on the very Massachusetts model he championed as governor.

Women’s right to choose: While running for governor, firmly pledged to support a woman’s right to choose, but while running for president, reversed his position to appeal to more conservative GOP primary voters.

Taxes: Brags about signing Grover Norquist’s no-tax pledge, but as governor he raised property taxes to their highest level in 25 years and imposed higher fees for residents to get married, give birth, license a firearm, buy a home, register a car or boat, receive state services for the disabled, or get a commercial driver’s license.

Oil/Middle East: Made high-profile calls for New York and California state pension funds to divest from Iranian interests, despite personally enriching himself with massive investments in Iran.

"Inviting a prolific hypocrite like Mitt Romney to raise money shows that these Republicans are just as unprincipled as he is," said Luis Heredia, Arizona Democratic Party executive director. "It sounds like their common campaign platform is a Pledge to Hypocrisy."
