The case for Arizona Corporation Commission
David Bradley vs. Brenda Burns & Gary Pierce
Every day until Election Day, we will lay out the clear choices in Arizona's statewide races*
PHOENIX – In the race for the Arizona Corporation Commission, the choice between Democrat David Bradley and Republicans Brenda Burns and Gary Pierce is clear.
David Bradley:
Rep. Bradley has served in the Arizona State Legislature for the last eight years, representing Legislative District 28 in central Tucson. He is known as a thoughtful legislator who can reach across the aisle in the best interest of Arizona. This reputation has earned him endorsements from business groups as well as environmental organizations.
- Bradley understands the responsibility that comes with setting the state’s energy policy. The Arizona Corporation Commission makes decisions that profoundly affect growth, jobs and our environment:
- Bradley will protect Arizona ratepayers by ensuring that any utility rate increases are absolutely necessary and in the best interest of our state. The worst recession in generations is not the time to move profit losses from corporate ledgers onto the backs of working families.
- Bradley's presence on the ACC will create a majority vote to pursue a renewable, clean energy policy that preserves our environment and creates high-wage jobs. Arizona should be the center of the solar industry in our nation and should lead the way to innovation and job growth.
- Bradley will work to reduce Arizona’s dependence on foreign oil and help make America less vulnerable.
David Bradley is ready to tackle the challenges created by years of a Republican majority on the ACC, including skyrocketing electrical rates and a shocking lack of clean-energy options in what should be “The Solar State.”
Brenda Burns & Gary Pierce:
Burns and Pierce are not on the side of hard-working Arizonans:
- As Senate President, Burns nearly bankrupted our state when she presided over the alt-fuels scandal a decade ago -- the worst regulatory disaster in Arizona’s history.
- Pierce continues to push for nuclear as the main solution to Arizona's future energy needs instead of encouraging the development of renewable resources and making our state the solar capitol of the world.
- Burns is a former lobbyist for big oil and the home mortgage industry.
- Pierce has a track record in the Legislature of towing the Republican Party line rather than standing up for the people of Arizona. In 1999, then-legislator Burns sponsored bills to privatize Arizona’s prisons—the very bills that laid the foundation for the recent Kingman prison escapes.
It’s clear that Burns and Pierce will continue to put their ideology before our best interests. They can’t be trusted to stand up to the utility companies to ensure that rates remain fair and affordable for working families.
