The case for Arizona attorney general

Felecia Rotellini vs.Tom Horne

Every day until Election Day, we will lay out the clear choices in Arizona's statewide races*

PHOENIX – In the race for Arizona attorney general, the choice between Felecia Rotellini and Tom Horne is clear.

Felecia Rotellini:

Rotellini believes in rewarding those who work hard and play by the rules, and she believes in holding rule-breakers accountable -- whether they're greedy Wall Street executives who game the system or the politicians who let them get away with it. Rotellini is the only attorney general candidate with a record of convicting scammers and cracking down on border crime.

Rotellini has what it takes to protect Arizonans:

Felecia Rotellini is just the kind of tough, focused attorney general we need to keep our communities safe. The state's two largest newspapers agree -- read Rotellini's endorsements in The Arizona Republic and The Arizona Daily Star.

Tom Horne:

Horne doesn't seem to think the rules apply to him. In fact, he has a history of breaking them or being lax on others who do the same. Here's a closer look at Horne's troubling background:

  • Horne hid a corporate bankruptcy from the Arizona Corporation Commission in violation of state law. He did this for multiple years by filing misleading corporate documents. Horne lied under penalty of perjury by signing official government documents that omitted the bankruptcy. [The Arizona Republic, 6/20/10]
  • Horne's bankruptcy also landed him a lifetime trading ban from the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission after he was found to have submitted a false balance sheet and misrepresented his firm's assets. [The Arizona Republic, 6/20/10]
  • As superintendent of public instruction, Horne knowingly hired a convicted felon who had embezzled more than $1.7 million from his former employer, and Horne promoted the ex-con into a top-level job at the state Department of Education. He even gave this convicted felon access to school employees’ Social Security numbers.[Arizona Daily Star, 8/14/10]
  • As superintendent of public instruction, Horne could have voted "no" to stop the state Board of Education from reinstating the teaching certificate of a Queen Creek high school teacher who had admitted to viewing pornographic Web sites on his classroom computer. But Horne voted "yes." [East Valley Tribune, 5/22/06]

Tom Horne is the last person who should be Arizona’s top cop.
