Statement on the 10th annual remembrance of 9/11

Andrei Cherny, Arizona Democratic Party chairman, offers the following statement:

“As we remember a day that shook our nation to its foundation, let us also remember that when the dust cleared, our foundation was stronger. Our collective grief in the days and weeks after September 11 pulled our American family closer. We united around every story of courage and resilience -- New York firefighters charging up stairs into an unspeakable scene, or the heroic uprising by passengers on United Flight 93. And we steeled ourselves for faraway battles that would require enduring sacrifices from our men and women in uniform. Today, let us commemorate that day by again summoning that sense of national unity and common purpose.

"We will never forget the innocent victims and the first responders who perished a decade ago, and we honor their loved ones who carry on bravely to this day. In the spirit of remembrance and unity, we invite our fellow Arizonans and Americans to pay tribute to them all by observing September 11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance."
