Statement on State of the Union address
Andrei Cherny, Arizona Democratic Party chair, gave the following statement after President Obama delivered his 2011 State of the Union address tonight:
"Tonight, we gathered to hear how President Obama plans to build on his accomplishments to date. His priorities are the right ones, and they're also our priorities here in Arizona — to strengthen our economy and create jobs, reform government so it works better and costs less, and ensure that our children have access to a world-class education. The president outlined the responsibility of leaders from both parties to deal with the national debt, advance America’s interests abroad, and work to restore the American Dream.
"Here in Arizona, we take his message to heart, and all Arizonans are moved by his recognition of the heroes, survivors, and victims of the attack in Tucson, including Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords. This is a time for unity and common purpose. To quote the president, 'We will move forward together, or not at all – for the challenges we face are bigger than party, and bigger than politics.' We couldn't agree more. As the new chair of the Arizona Democratic Party, I pledge to make this a 'big tent' party where Democrats, Independents and fed-up Republicans can work together to move our state forward. And we all pledge to join the president in working toward a more perfect union."
