Reminder to treasurer candidate Douglas Ducey: Don't forget to vote!
NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 30, 2010
With the onset of early voting this week, Arizona Democrats are issuing a special reminder to Republican state treasurer candidate Douglas Ducey to remember to vote in this year’s primary election.
An examination of Maricopa County election records shows that, despite living in Arizona 15 years, Ducey has never voted in a primary election for state treasurer or other major statewide office. In fact, Ducey had never voted in a Republican primary until the 2008 Arizona presidential primary.
“Douglas Ducey seems to have a habit of missing elections,” said Luis Heredia, Arizona Democratic Party executive director, noting that Ducey had only voted four times in 11 years between 1996 and 2007. “We hope he intends to be more attentive to the duties of the Treasurer’s Office than he has been to his civic responsibilities.”
County records show that the 46-year-old Ducey didn’t vote in a presidential election until 2004, and he hasn’t voted in a local election until this year.
Heredia noted that Ducey has also failed to provide detailed listings of his personal financial holdings on his Financial Disclosure Statement that is required by state law, as have all the other treasurer candidates.
“We need a state treasurer who can meet the minimum standards for civic engagement and financial transparency,” Heredia said. “Ducey doesn’t meet that test.”
