Jobs report reveals Stimulus Jan's hypocrisy

AZ Commerce report is latest reason to challenge Brewer's jobs claims

PHOENIX – In light of Thursday's jobs report from the state Department of Commerce, the press and public have more reasons than ever to challenge Gov. Jan Brewer's campaign doublespeak of bashing the federal government while taking credit herself for stimulus-funded job creation.

Here's the opening line of The Arizona Republic's story Thursday:

Thanks to federal stimulus money and better-than-expected hiring in some sectors, Arizona is now predicted to lose only about 1 percent of its jobs this year, the state Department of Commerce said Thursday.

On the campaign trail, Brewer has been fed-bashing her way across Arizona while touting job creation efforts. She has also sent out at least a dozen press releases since August with large headlines proclaiming she is doing something to create jobs or help the business or education communities. Each one those efforts, however, was funded by federal dollars.

"Jan Brewer's reckless campaign rhetoric is hypocritical and counterproductive," said Luis Heredia, Arizona Democratic Party executive director. "She's trying to pull a fast one on Arizona voters."

We highlighted this hypocrisy on Sept. 28. We highlighted it on Aug 20. We even highlighted it way back on Jan. 11, just after her State of the State address. And we only expect more of the same as Election Day approaches.
