Hobbit Watch: Will McCain call entire AZGOP delegation 'worse than foolish'?

Wednesday: McCain calls balanced budget amendment 'worse than foolish'
Today: Every AZGOP rep backs balanced budget amendment

AZ Republicans support doomed plan the senator derided as 'hobbit' fantasy

PHOENIX -- Word is, they're all voting "yes" today. And that would mean Jeff Flake adds another flip-flop to his resume, David Schweikert breaks a campaign-trail pledge (see minute 26 of video), and Paul Gosar and Ben Quayle earn their freshman "tea party hobbit" badge from Sen. John McCain.

Apparently, all it takes to get 100 percent AZGOP congressional support for the Boehner debt-ceiling bill is adding a doomed-out-of-the-gates balanced-budget amendment -- an amendment so critical to our nation that the GOP never once held a vote on it when they controlled Congress under President Bush.

"Rather than sending an ideological pipe dream over to die in the Senate, Flake and the rest of the Republicans should be working toward a balanced, bipartisan bill for the good of our nation," said Luis Heredia, Arizona Democratic Party executive director.

"It's no secret McCain has big differences with the president and Democrats, but his now-famous floor speech Wednesday was about the difference between reality and fantasy legislation," Heredia said. "Were our House Republicans even listening?"
