Flake, Republicans silent on closing corporate jet tax giveaway
Arizona Republican Party's attack piece defends jet subsidies
PHOENIX -- Arizona’s Republican members of Congress should distance themselves from a controversial statement issued by their state party, said Arizona Democratic Party Chairman Andrei Cherny today. As Congress debates the debt-ceiling crisis, the Arizona Republican Party has launched a vigorous defense of the costly subsidy for corporate jets.
“Every person must do their part to solve this national crisis and return America to fiscal discipline,” Cherny said. “It's shocking that the Arizona Republican Party attacked me for saying that corporate jet owners -- and not just seniors, students and the middle class -- need to sacrifice in the name of a return to fiscal responsibility.”
U.S. Reps. Jeff Flake, David Schweikert, Paul Gosar and Ben Quayle have all called for seniors and middle-class families to make significant sacrifices but have refused to dedicate themselves to the idea that the corporate jet tax loophole should be closed as well.
These members should make clear to Arizonans that they will vote to end the giveaway, Cherny said.
National polls indicate that the American people agree with Cherny’s position – that we need “a balanced approach” to solve the debt-ceiling crisis.
