NEWS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 15, 2010
Jonathan Paton has apparently forgotten there’s a GOP primary in August. The former payday lending lobbyist released his own CD8 general election poll today, despite staying silent on recent primary-election polling that shows him in a tight race with his Republican primary opponents, Jesse Kelly and Brian Miller. [Tucson Weekly: June 24, 2010]
Paton’s poll didn’t ask the real questions voters need answered about his record of putting special interests ahead of Arizonans. So we will ask them for him.
Would you be more likely, about as likely or less likely to vote for Jonathan Paton if you knew the following about him:
- Payday Paton is a corporate lobbyist who used his state Senate campaign account as a personal slush fund to the tune of more than $8,300 -- even after he dropped out of the Senate to run for Congress.
- Payday Paton was a lobbyist for payday lenders and supported predatory lenders abuses of working seniors, families and the military. He now refuses to demand an end to Wall Street abuses.
- Payday Paton claims a record of “honesty and integrity,” but contrary to all ethical standards he made thousands working for corporate lobbyists while he served in the Arizona Legislature.
- As a legislator in Phoenix, Payday Paton voted to cut hundreds of millions of dollars from our children’s schools in order to preserve tax loopholes for the super rich, including country club dues, cosmetic surgery and dog grooming.
- Payday Paton eliminated funding for one of Arizona's most effective economic engines, Science Foundation Arizona, which has brought thousands of jobs and $331 million in revenue to our state.
- Payday Paton wants to privatize Social Security and establish a flat tax that will raise taxes on a majority of Arizona families.
Having heard all of this information, are you more likely, about as likely or less likely to vote for Jonathan Paton?*
