Brewer Boycotts Her Own State

Once again demonstrates willingness to put her own political gain over Arizona's best interests

Jan Brewer has tarnished the celebrated image of Arizona, scaring away tourists and businesses with tales of headless bodies and rampant kidnappings.

As if she hasn’t caused enough economic and public relations damage to Arizona already, now Jan Brewer is personally keeping a high-profile conference out of our state.

On Wednesday Brewer announced she had cancelled the annual meeting of 10 U.S. and Mexican border state governors that was scheduled to be held in Phoenix. She cancelled the conference to spite six governors from Mexican border states who refused to attend in objection to Arizona’s new immigration law.

This is yet another example of how Brewer pushes business, tourism and growth... AWAY from Arizona in the name of political gain and national fame for the Accidental Governor.

Never mind that Mexico is Arizona’s largest trading partner or that the governors of California and New Mexico now plan on hosting the conference in one of their states.

Brewer could have acted like a leader by hosting the conference, opening a dialog toward true border security solutions and demonstrating that it is safe for all visitors to enjoy Arizona’s legendary hospitality.

Instead, Brewer saw it as an opportunity to play political games to distract from her failed leadership.

"Jan Brewer has demonstrated once again that, at a time when leadership is needed most, the good of Arizona and its people are not her top priority," said Luis Heredia, executive director of the Arizona Democratic Party.
